BestFit ensures equitable and quality education by addressing basic needs (like housing and food) insecurity for students who cannot afford to stay in college, even with financial aid. Our mission is to redefine what an equitable and resilient student support system looks like for our nation’s most vulnerable college students. We do this through our Universal Eligibility Screening Tool—a mobile-friendly platform that brings dignity to students’ search for help by reducing the time, cognitive burden, and stigma related to applying for benefits.Since launching our pilot study this summer, we've helped more than 150 students in the state of Georgia, and we estimate that they're eligible for over $500,000 in federal benefits.
Since the launch of our pilot study, we’ve seen overwhelming demand from students, and early impact data shows that 70% of our students are Pell grant recipients, and 42% are currently or formerly housing insecure.
In the wake of declining student retention and increasing basic needs insecurity now is a critical time to increase student awareness and utilization of BestFit. We're seeking introductions to organizations (ex: colleges & universities, education )
COVID-19 has made our work more relevant—and urgent—than ever. We’re currently fundraising to scale our work, which will allow us to screen & support another 1,000 students—and unlock almost $3m in resources—by the end of the year.
