Digital Rohi is an award-winning social enterprise delivering first-of-it ’s-kind, portable, solar powered, and community owned internet connectivity to nomadic settlements in Pakistan ’ s Cholistan Desert. The initiative addresses the severe digital exclusion faced by pastoralist nomadic communities by providing school centered internet access designed to move with migrating tribes. This enables consistent access to learning resources, teacher support, and digital literacy for children and wider community in an environment where fixed infrastructure cannot function.
The project combines community ownership with a sustainable business approach. Schools receive free internet connectivity to ensure access to quality education, while affordable community based access for families and local businesses creates a revenue stream that supports operations. Through locally managed infrastructure and affordable community access models and free school-centred internet, Digital Rohi enables learning, digital inclusion and long term community empowerment
for the last mile.

The next phase requires structured impact investment to support continued deployments, operational stability, and system refinement. Aligning funding timelines with the realities of remote implementation remains a key challenge.
Delivering connectivity in nomadic settings requires coordination across communities, educators, government actors, and local partners. Accessing long-term mentorship and advisory support is essential to maintain quality, consistency, and alignment.
We operate at the intersection of education, connectivity, community governance, and public systems. Due to the multifaceted nature of the project, accessing long-term technical partners is important for continuous delivery and structured engagement.
